To celebrate Pride Month this year, we invited some of our devs to talk about their journeys within Rogue when it comes to diversity and inclusion. 🌈

The most talked-about point in these conversations was about how being in a diverse environment makes the work routine easier as there is no concern about suffering reprisals or negative consequences for being who you are. The creative freedom that this environment brings is extremely positive and influences everyone.

“It’s the first time I’m working in a place where I’m not the only trans person and it frees me from the mental burden of having to perform a ‘transgenderity’ that doesn’t necessarily fits me all the time. It’s much lighter for me to focus on my work, on what really matters. It’s good that I don’t have to be an ambassador for trans people in the company all the time while I’m also part of the gaming-dev machine.” , said Talbone, one of our talented artists.

 

Representation in games was also one of the topics we discussed. We talked about how new games are bringing even more important agendas to the LGBTQIA+ community and how important this is so that more diverse people can feel represented.

At Rogue, we believe that having diverse thoughts makes the ideas that emerge more inclusive.

Minecraft, Stardew Valley, Mass Effect, The Last of Us 2, and Hades were some of the games that have good representation and were cited by our devs. These games made them feel comfortable and inspired as they saw that there were characters or customization possibilities free from gender or sexuality blocks, which made them identify and connect with those universes in a unique way, relating to similar issues they live in real life. And that’s why we need to have representation in the games!

Here at Rogue, we believe in spreading love through our games. We want everyone to feel embraced. That’s why we care a lot about having different narratives that can reflect positively on different people.
